In Texas, changing your name is an established procedure that is
fairly simple, and it should be no problem for trans persons.
However, there is currently no set procedure for gender marker
changes. During prior sessions of the Texas legislature, bills have
been introduced to establish such a procedure, and bills will
continue to be put before the state legislature. At this time,
individual judges decide whether to allow gender marker changes as
well as the requirements that must be met to grant changes.
Here we have provided the forms for an adult name change. You will
need a "Petition" and a "Order" for filing. It is wise to have at
least 4 copies of each when filing. It is always best to check for
the latest versions of these forms at your county courthouse law
library. For more information on how to file go here.
